Need Pizza? Have a MINI? Drive to Costa Mesa!
Well, actually, even if you do not own a MINI (which, for now is true for myself – that will change in the future!) I sincerely suggest you try out Ray and Carmina’s little deli in Costa Mesa “Ciao Deli & Pizzeria”.
I found this by happenstance one day when I wanted pizza and used SIRI on my iPhone to locate a good Pizza place.
The recommendation was actually for a previous pizza place in the exact same location, but I thought I would ‘give it a try’ and I am SOOO happy for the effort!
Italian this Good?
From the minute you step into their location, you realize you are not in any ‘normal’ little deli! The eclectic decorations around the walls are made by Ray I was told by Carmina.
They hail from the Oakland area where there is a rich Italian history (which I was unaware of, and Ray has a book on the counter to let you review to prove it!) Actually, Ray will pull out the book about the history and point to some of the black and white pictures which are friends of the family, or actually family (I don’t remember which).
So, confirming the authenticity of their family lineage only helps support the amazing food they cook in this little location so much more.
I’ve had the pizza (by the slice and by the pie) and suggest if you want two slices have them cook one and bring them to you and then when you are about half-way through have them heat up the next… The crispy thin crust is amazing!
I have also enjoyed the fettacini alfredo and the meatballs as well, simply delicious!
I have yet to try the salad or sandwiches, although the last time I was there two ladies came specifically for the sandwiches and in fact, one had ordered ahead to be ready when they arrived!
If you enjoy sports, Ray to talk with you all day long and I can honestly say this is the closest I have felt I have been to something akin to the show ‘Cheers’ in my life.
My opinion? 5 out of 5 MINI’s

Had lunch there with my three boys and they all enjoyed both the food and the VERY eclectic stuff on the walls and hanging from the ceiling!
I try to go to Ciao at least once a week. It is VERY much worth the effort.
Be careful, the place is pretty small (like about 7 or 8 tables) so off-peak times helps.
